I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction of a good sax teacher , I want to learn blues and improve my technique. Someone in the glasgow area would be great

My personal teacher worked for Berkshire young musicians trust (now Maestroes), which do cater for adults as well as us 'yoofs'. Her name's Michelle Jenner and I found to be a fantastic teacher. She lives more fleet way, but is in Reading (Mainly Prospect Park area) very frequently.

Also Charles Henwood, who runs the centre is a huge Parker fan and teaches, I only have experience from him as conducting the 'yob orkestra' though.

Never came across Jan Steel, but you can be sure anyone who has worked for the musician's trust is very competent with lots of experience.

Hi all how do you find a good teacher? I have had a couple thing is i am looking for a teacher that will listen to me play ask what i am looking for ect and then say ok "I would like to start you from here ect ect and have a structured lesson if that is possible? But i feel i can almost say what we are going to do in the lesson. both my teachers were very good maybe its just me I am looking for something different someone who will take control, encourage me and take an interest i am 48 iv been playing 2 yrs www.freewebs.com/tom9437/ or youtube type in romeo011 any ideas ilive in the peterborough area thanks.

Tom - you say you have had 2 teachers who were very good but you are looking for something different. Did you explain to your teachers what you wanted to achieve from your lessons? Most good teachers will listen to what their students want and structure the lessons to suit. Have a look on musicteachers.co.uk and sax.co.uk for your area. At your first meeting make it clear what you want to achieve from playing the sax but remember it ususally takes time, hard work and commitment. Good luck
