Sax case detritis

I've just cleaned out all the junk in my case. As a matter of curiousity and amusement, what do you keep in your in instrument case?
Here goes (aside from my horn)
A pullthrough
Cleaning cloth
Numerous reeds- a fair number of which should be in the bin
a big marker pen for set lists
scrunched up chord charts & set lists
a small plastic chili (even I can't remember why)
a london tube map
numerous burnt CDs with things like "learn tracks 2 & 5" writen on
Band business cards

Pull throughs, mouthpiece mouse, crook cleaner, six mouthpieces, cloths, mouthpiece patches one or two odd reeds spare cheapo sling, a pocket book of etudes, receipt for service back in 1996, pad powder, key oil.

Too many mouthpieces, far too many reeds, cork grease, sling, pull-throughs, a bog-standard metal lig with no screws. The usual, really.

I keep a pull through, a wiping cloth, cork grease, a mouthpiece, cap lig etc. a reed box with 2 classical 3 jazz reeds in and a box of mixtures as spares, a sling, Metronome/Tuner thing and some rizzla.

I've recently cut down as I was carrying around everything I owned. You guys seem to have huge cases!

Nothing special.

all the above plus, a piece of 2 x 4, a few cardboard nail files, a set of small screwdrivers, assorted pieces of cork, plus in the tenor case a set of G,A,C and D blues harps with back ups for C and D, and a packet of Rizlas - for the pads man! -

but don't ask what I've got in the gigbag - I think it died.

Pull through
Four Boxes of Reeds from 1.5 to 3.
Digital Metronome.
Digital Tuner.
2 X Mouthpieces
Cleaning cloth.
Jumbo Rizlars
Cork Grease.
Reed Cutter
Nail Files.
Two Slings.
Plastic Reed Dryer box thingy.
Two Sheets of Kitchen Paper.

I also Drag around a second case for music, but quickly filling with more Junk.
And we talk about women's Handbags!

Half a dozen or so mouthpieces, about fifty reeds, couple of slings, paper, pencil, tuner cum metronome thing, rizlas (for cleaning the pads, officer), penknife (for shaving reeds, officer) and a small spice jar.

Spice jar? I've never liked the taste of reeds, so I fill it with water before I play and dunk the reed in for a minute to moisten it.

Sax reeds, a couple of clarinet reeds (in case the kids need 'em), two mouthpieces, crook pull-through, horn pull-through, the empty bag that the pull-throughs came in, packet of Rizlas, stick of cork crease, a baby screwdriver, sling ... and the remains of three feet of red tinsel left over from Christmas!!

Then I have my 'gig bag' - music pad, spare pads (several instruments, 'cause I'm the librarian), sax stand, music stand, tuner, pencils, bag of clothes' pegs, spare sling, more spare reeds, mini-sewing kit, sellotape, notebook (again, all because I'm a surrogate mum to the young 'uns). And on gig days, my hip flask goes in there too!! Good job it's one of those wheely ones! 🙂

1 horn
1 crook in pouch
1mouthpiece. in pouch
1 2 tins of reeds
powder and paper
sling
tuner
small screw driver set from a Xmas Cracker ( size of a book of matches.)

then i also carry
1 sax rax bag which holds
1 sax rax horn stand
1 music stand and light
2 microphones (inc a clip on type, and a sm57)
1 mic lead
book of manuscript paper
pens and pencils
.
then i also have and over the shoulder bag with the pad of what ever band im playing for..

now if im playing a gig which calls for alto tenor and bari..times all that by 3..
i keep a little trolly in my car for such events..

I don't envy you lot that have so much.

I guess because I don't gig is why I don't need all those extra bits for when it goes wrong!

I always have the Rizlas and babby screwdrivers to hand, if not actually in the case.

And Spike, I'm intrigued, what for a piece of 4 by 2?? Do you play to some rough crowds?

Horn,couple of Pull-throuhgs)))...some reeds...2-3 usually, a mic, 2 long wires for it(just in case), screwdriver,a notebook with notebars =DDDDDDDD(lol I dunno how to say it in English) and scales(always forgetin' some hard minor pentatonics an blues scales =DDD)....some texts for the band =) and a mouthpiece, ofc)

Moutpiece, reeds and ligature r in separate box)))...made it myself =)) very useful))) 🙂

I wouldn't mind, but I'm hardly what you'd call a regularly working player. I'm a hobbyist who plays a few gigs a year, but I'm always one of the last out of rehearsal, and not because I stay behind nattering, either.

I envy these trumpeters who can just whip out their mouthpiece, shove the instrument into a case and go. Better still the tuba player who just shoves the whole thing, wholesale, into his car.

other than the normal stuff, and the mystery junk my wife leaves in there when she borrows it - i always keep a black bowtie and a ridiculous hat in my case in case the gig seems to require either (more usually the hat - which i love - and strangely never both)

Tell me about it. I'm married to one. He says the most annoying thing is that the bar's always closed by the time he gets there. Ooooh, the number of times we go home from what's been a decent gig with him in a foul mood 'cause he couldn't get a drink afterwards. 😡
