Ok, i undertand most of whats said. Be gentle people, i'm new in town!
So i pose a question?
I come from guitarland, where most things fall easily into place. Bluesman play it slow n dirty, Jazzmen like it clean and smooth then the rockers just go for loud n dirty with the occasional melody!

But SaxLand has me confused, as I find it difficult to differentiate between the styles. A fav. song of mine for example is "let love rule" by Kravitz. Lovely (well i think so!) sax solo about 2mins in...but what genre is it, blues, rock or funk?!
I need to re-tune my "john deers" me thinks!!!

Maybe someone could post a few songtitles, and write which gere they believe it to be... This solo's rock, this ones blues etc. I for one would find it helpful 🙂
Plus i'm sure it'd fire up a lovely " thats not rock its blues" debate when the song-name start to fly!!!

Well, Mark, I come from predominantly acoustic-guitar land, and I'm still confused about genres! Perhaps it's more valid to talk about players, singers etc and their own individual style within their chosen genre or cross-genre than to try and pigeonhole everything. Call me old-fashioned (voice off, 'you're old-fashioned!') but I prefer individualists whatever genre(s) they work within.

I'm sooo glad I was just too old in the 80's for all that poodle-rock malarkey. Mind you, I probably looked fairly ridiculous as a hippie, too, and I wasn't that convincing a punk either.
