hi Guys
I have noticed that the shpe of the tip of my reeds doesnot match the shape of the tip of my mouthpiece. (reeds: rico royal 1.5) (mouthpiece: yamaha 4c)
Does any one out there in sax land adjust the shape of thier raw reed with say a stanley blade to suit the shape of their mouthpiece tip so that it is more mirror image (so to speak).
Thus giving the rail corners a better matchup with the reed.
my reeds are relatively inexpensive so Im happy to sacrifice one for the experiment to see what happens with sound , tone etc.
Thought I might get some feed back first.

I'm sure there'll be someone here who does. Tried it many years ago. Didn't seem to make any difference. But that's probably down to my cloth ears and it's just another one to add to the long list of stuff that I can't hear (ligatures, lacquer, mouthpiece material, sax material, straps, cork grease, etc.).

With the very small amount we are talking about, I can't see how it can possibly make any difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John.

No, don't worry about it.
