My daughter would like to get hold of a music book so she can play Christmas tunes. (I know it's a bit early but she want's to practice!)

Could someone recommend something - she has passed her grade 2 alto and is working on her grade 3.

Many thanks

go to a site like musicnotes.com and choose tunes together, make your own book and cut out the dross most xmas books come with..if you use the sites built in transposer you can put the tunes into any key before printing.

Phone sax.co.uk. Tell the nice person vaguely what you are after. They'll tell you what you need. Hand over credit card deets. Wait for postman. Blow. It worked for me. Must fish the book out, but really, can't start to practice Xmas until at least after bonfire night! Can't remember the name of the book, but includes Fairytale of NY, I wish it could be Xmas every day, and other good stuff. Recommended.

Thanks all for the recommendations so far.

Pedro - could you take a peek at the books title and let me know what it is called cause that sounds a good one - you don't have to open it and play anything!

Cheers

Guest Spot - Christmas Hits Playalong for Alto Sax.
The bad news is it also has "Mistletoe and Wine", but you can always light the fire with that page to roast the chestnuts. I just looked and Sax.co.uk appear to have it. Mrs Pedro just caught me fishing it out, now I've got to get it for her on Piano so we can crucify it together. The Joy of Christmas 😉

There are three Guest Spots for Christmas available for solo alto and also an alto duet one. I use the three alto ones myself, used them for years:-

Christmas Playalong
Christmas Hits
Christmas Favourites

I recommend them highly, great arrangements throughout, although of course there are 'gaps' in the music, since they are designed to work with the backing discs.

I also use Favourite Carols for alto sax, can't remember the publisher right now; the very easy arrangements of each carol only go for two or three verses but still enjoyable, to get the true Christmas message out there.

There are many more festive books around, both with backing and without, some are 'straight' and others jazz things up somewhat. As they say (or as I say), 'Christmas gets all the best tunes'...
