I have read Pete's discussion of chord progressions with respect to secondary dominants. In that discussion, I can see how we can look at secondary dominants as either altered chords in the same key (for example VI7 chords) or we can look at them as temporary modulations to a new key. I am currently looking at a tune that has a I - VI7 - IIm7 - V7 progression in the A section. What is the best scale to use over the VI7 ??
Same question for the IIIm7 - VI7 - IIm7 - V7 . Should this be treated like two- II-V cadences?
