Has anyone tried this mouthpiece and is there any difference(s) tone wise in comparison to the regular Otto Link STM?

I'm thinking of trying one out of curiosity since it has a larger chamber. I would like a mouthpiece that can project more in the lower register on my Super 20. For some reason, the standard Otto Link didn't seem like a good match for my horn when I tried it out.

Perhaps not quite the answer you were hoping for but...

Although there is a difference, I don't think it will give you the projection you are looking for (personal though it is!) and it's not that far removed from the standard STM.

Not knowing what you have tried I would recommend trying to test some of the following
plain Lawtons,
SR Tech fusion 115,
(honest...don't rule it out. Big baffle but nice bottom end),
Low baffle Berg's (number 2 or 3 chamber)
Guardala Cresent,
Barone Hollywood or Jazz
Saxscape (listen on their website)

I've got one of these, and I dig it out when I feel like a big fat rounded sort of sound. I think the difference between them and the normal ones is more pronounced with wider tip openings - mine's a 9. On my Yanagisawa I get a round, mellow tone, that's got even less brightness than a standard STM. I find the higher notes a bit on the dull side, but it gives loads of rich bottom end.

Having said all that, the only answer is to try for yourself, as there's another significant variable in the sound - the player.

I'm pretty much looking for a more mellow and smoother sound on the bottom end. The Meyer gives me projection on the bottom end but it's not as smooth as I like. At times it's sound like listening to a person with a bad sinus infection, a rhaspy type tone on the bottom and then it even out as I go up the register.

I'll check out the Berg though and see how it responds. I liked the tone I got on tenor with it but I want to try one on an alto.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
