Tone or Sound Need Help for my tone

Hi @jbtsax ,

Can you say a little more about what is meant by singing through the sax? I don't believe these players are using their vocal chords, which to me means that they aren't singing.
When I find the time, I plan to make a video on tone production that will include "singing" through your instrument.
Simply put, that is a concept that is based upon the saxophone being an extension of your voice. This is a drawing of a "saxophone" taken from The Art of Saxophone Playing showing everything that influences the tone of the saxophone.

Obviously one does not actually "sing" through the saxophone, but the idea is more about how the air flow is used. If one thinks of the saxophone as an extension of the voice it helps to play music on the instrument more on the airstream above and beyond the mechanical operations of opening and closing keys.

One way to practice this concept is to sing a phrase of a beautiful melody on an "Ahh". You don't need a great voice, just take a huge breath and use all or your air by the end of the phrase. Make it as melodic and connected as you can. One example would be "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Having done that, play that phrase on your instrument slurring the notes throughout using the airstream in the same manner as when you were singing. You are still "singing" that melody through the extension of your voice which is the saxophone.

I actually saw some diagrams myself when I went searching for "singing through the saxophone"

.. which doesn't really explain it at all..
But this article is very interesting http://www.thomas-liley.com/Playing The Saxophone - Making It Sing - Liley.pdf

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
