Message: <blockquote data-quote="MikeMorrell" data-source="post: 626317" data-attributes="member: 4674"><p>An OT post from me.</p><p></p><p>Via a strange route (a new eye-measurement at my local opticians last week for a new pair of glasses and my optician's 'alarm bells' going off. She advised me to visit my GP a.s.a.p. - with her printed results - and get a referral to an 'eye doctor </p><p></p><p>Waiting lists for visits to 'eye doctors' are usually many weeks. But I got an appointment for this morning. Most probably because someone else had cancelled.</p><p></p><p>Based on the results of my (90 minute) 'investigations', it turned out that I had a cataract in my right eye. I discussed various mitigation (thicker lenses) and treatment (lens surgery) options with my 'eye doctor. When I had opted for 'lens surgery', two 'lens surgeons' soon turned up to explain my options, the procedure and the (very small) risks. Shorty afterwards, I was 'forwarded' to a another 'professional' who did additional measurements to assess what would be the 'best' lens strength' for my replacement lens. An hour later, I got a call from my local pharmacy saying that they'd received the prescription for the eye drops that I would need to take post-surgery. </p><p></p><p>I was truly delighted (and impressed) by my hospital visit this morning. From the reception area (with free tea, coffee and and water) and a very large fish tank! To the individual care and attention that professionals gave to each and every visitor. And the efficiency (via telephone) with which my 'eye doctor 'could quickly call in other specialists into the discussion with me. And with the 'integrated healthcare' which involved my local ('glasses shop') optician, my GP, an 'eye doctor and 'eye surgeons' and finally my local Pharmacy.</p><p>My lasting impression was 'Wow, our hospitals - and our 'integrated' healthcare in NL have a high standard!</p><p>Not all Dutch people would agree.</p><p></p><p>Still, my positive comments contrast with less positive news items I sometimes read about the UK NHS and the affordability of Health Care insurance for unemployed U S citizens. Don't get me wrong. I'm100% sure that all health organizations and all health workers around the world continually strive to deliver the very best Health Care service that they can.</p></blockquote><p></p>
