Meet the latest member of the Thomas family

Well, "Spike" of course is by far the best suggestion so far, - the intelligent and inquiring look in the eyes, the purposeful pout of the lips, ears poised, and yet, a tranquility, a serenity, perhaps an air of superiority - sans arrogance, avec poisson con frites . . .

"Brutus" wouldn't be bad . . . or "Cyril" perhaps . . .

Tosh. That's just Bo-Jolly induced stupor

i think the ant-tiddles felix thing is cool but dave is a bit 2003 or perhaps even earlier.
What about a truly 'sensible & dignified' name without any apparent irony like Peter, Jonathon or maybe Graham? I spose Peter would get abbreviated to Pete then it might get a bit confusing for him / you at meal times..

You could always go for a toatally surreal name like 'Snooker' or 'Whizzer', 'Spinner' or Spider. Yes - give him the name of another animal like Monkey, Sparrow (-catcher), Fox or Rabbit (killer).
I guess it's a backlash against Tiddles or Felix. But if you've heard the idea before then maybe we need to rethink. I don't like the idea of people saying "Dave?, that's' sooo 2005".

How about letting one of the young Thomases choose a name for the cat? That is, if you don't mind something unsuitable or unintelligible.

I never did get what it was about a fish that inspired a 4-year-old to come up with the name 'Shouffy' for it.

How about various other sax-related names, like Arnold (or Brilhart), or Otto as in Link, or..... erm  Martin... Martin the cat, could be this year's Dave. Or if he's a biggun, how about Barry the cat? Or if he's really big, Basie? Or if he's absolutely huge, Contra-Basie?

I'll get me coat....

How about naming him after one of your saxophonic heroes? You could call him Curtis or Earl or even Bostic. Though you might run the risk of your neighbours thinking you're some kind of fiendish solvent abuser if you stand at the back door calling out for bostic :S

Or how about Ornette? Hmmm... a bit pretentious perhaps.

He looks like an Earl to me.

Peter

i don't belive im actually gonna join in on theis thread hehehe
but here gos..

the cat should be called "KATZ" as in "KATZ WALLER"
its jazzy and the cat will become a porker when its done..(it is a tom?)

Talking about fish.

My brother named his Goldfish he won at a fair when he was 5.

'Snowky The Dog'

Try and understand that one!

We thought, It'd only last a few days maybe a week so we put it in a bowl. After a month we decided it needed a fish tank and we couldn't carry on borrowing the neighbors fish food.

8 Months later it died. That was one hell of a goldfish from a fair! We'd bought it a proper fish tank, with things to go in it, and actually paid for the food it eat by then! - Amazing!

I always wanted to call our cats baileys, or rum, or one gin and one tonic: Liked the idea of standing at the back door shouting baileys! Baileys where are you?! come here baileys!

You never know after a time someone might have taken pitty and brought me some 😛

How about finn - he seems to have a fin like white patch on his nose.
Or santa, with his big white beard.
Or do a john lennon and call him Jesus.

Oli

(ps looks like i'm about as good at naming cats as i am bands!)

Our next door neighbour'ss dog is called Bailey's... but I don't think they're great drinkers (well you wouldn't be if that's what you drank would you?) I've always wanted to call a cat Rover, but have always been vetoed. A jazz loving poet friend once had a cat called Blakey. He (the cat) was a bit slinkier than your moggie, so how about Max?

On a related topic, my cat always runs away when I practise. What am I doing wrong?http://www.breakfastroom.co.uk/index.cgi?fid=06&topic_id=1164559183&action=subscribe

mine doesn't run (my ca t that is), but doesn't like to be in the same room.

Unfortunately it never used to mind, but as it's gotten older and supposedly my playing better it's grown a bigger dislike.

Both of my fathers two cats run from the sound of a saxophone as well. I believe it is something to do with the sensitivity of cats hearing and the noises that a reed makes when played particularly effects cats as they don't run from guitars, piano or flute.

It's the high frequencies they don't like. Not just the high notes but a saxophone has many ovetones up there.

Unfortunately no names have yet been accepted by all 4 members of the (human) family. So currently the cat is called "The Cat" or "Pussycatcat"

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
