Great lesson today
learning new scores but coupled with the fact that I'm looking for my first alto.
So I hopped around between the following (alto) horns:

i. Bauhaus Walstein
ii. Conn Shooting Star
iii. Buescher Aristocrat
iv. Selmer Mk VI (yep, you read that right)

The Conn's quite a substantial chap for an alto, the Buescher, by the same standard is an absolute tiddler.
The tables were set out quite differently on these older saxes for capturing low B; my tutor prefers it, I think I might once I got used to it. I liked the octave mechanism on the Buescher, one of them (I can't remember) was quite difficult to feel out so you had to 'stay in touch'. The Selmer was everything I'd heard it was..

You know you've arrived when someone gives you a go on their Selmer Mk VI... 😎

My poor tenor sat forlornly on her stand and wondered why she'd bothered turning up.
