Levels?

I was researching and looking for the history behind a piece I am working on when I noticed something strange. On another forum much like this one they were using some kind of rating system to rate the pieces difficulty. They said it was a grade 8 and somewhere else it was called a D5. Now I am familiar with some organizations that for their own purposes rate music and usually have long lists explaining what is what but these people were not speaking in relation to an organization as far as I could tell. So is there some sort of universal system out there for rating difficulty that I have never known about? I would appreciate some input. 8| :erm:

There are only three levels to aspire to when it comes to sax playing:

1) I have made a note, it is rubbish, I hate this instrument and I will never play again.

2) I am adequate, I can sight-read and get a reasonable tone from my saxophone. I am in a small but unsuccessful band and I love my dog.

3) I have been watching a guy who is so good on the sax that I am confident I will never be able to play to that standard and therefore I am throwing my sax in the recycling.

I am at stage (2) and never want to change.

I didn't figure there was a system but I wanted to make sure. I suppose they were speaking in regards to something specific which I didn't know. Thanks for the input.

There must be someone who is at level 4, he is the guy who is so good that he puts the other guy at stage 3 right off playing.

Once I (maybe) learn to sight read and then get in a band I will be at stage 2, so I am a stage 2 apprentice. I love my cats, and the dog is ok I suppose
