Learning Repairman

Hi everyone, I have wanted to be able to repair saxophones for a while. I started by taking apart a bundy saxophone and putting the mechanisms back in place. What should I do about further learning (DVD's, kits, etc.) Thanks

As a player, I'm self-taught, and have also learned a bit of repairing by tinkering around with things (fixing leaks and general adjustments like spring tensioning etc). My advice from this standpoint is to be firm yet gentle, don't overdo things, and remember where you started from when you are attempting things like screw adjustments, as unless you examine your horn quite carefully to see what effect you are having by, say, adjusting a certain screw you can fix one problem and cause another one somewhere else unexpected. On the other hand, I'd say don't be afraid to experiment, as you always have your local friendly repair man, hopefully.

Cheers, Bob

I have an Old B&S Sax for that =D I just try smth on it and then on my new shiny selmer =DDDDDD....right after I bought the Selmer I got all of the movin' parts from my old one and made a nice shower+repolishing for it =DDDDDD.... :w00t: :w00t: still it's really intresting to adjust different skrews and look at teh effect =D

You can also download this (I have a copy on CD myself). It's quite old which I guess doesn't matter for some vintage instruments although there may be some better tools and techniques nowadays. A good read for an overview, I guess.

Sorry Pete - I didn't see it there. A much better solution.
