[color:green]I did my grade 1 ABRSM Jazz exam this afternoon!! I wasn't nervous until I started driving to the venue after work - and the butterflies really kicked in when I got there!!!!
I was shown into a small room to practice, and then moved to another one after 5 minutes because someone else wanted to use the piano in my room!!!! The acoustics were a whole lot better than in my conservatory!!! I ran thought the scales and then my three tunes without any problems, then got my tuner out. My teacher had said not to tune the sax until it was well warmed up - and to tune it slightly flat, as I'd probably play a bit sharp if I got nervous!!!
I then went out and waited my turn. 5 minutes after I was due in, I asked how late he was running, and was told by the receptionist (I think that's probably a bit grand a title for her, but that was her function) that she'd cocked up the timings, but the girl before me should be out soon.
She came out quite soon, and I was escorted to the examination room, where quite a young bloke sat at a table with lots of papers, a piano, music stand, a seat and an extension lead. I plugged the CD player in, put the music on the stand and was ready!!!
I played my scales first, which went quite well, and then my three tunes. I think I only made one mistake - I played an F at one point instead of a G in Mack the Knife, so nothing too disastrous!!!
The examiner asked if I'd like to do some aural tests after the 2nd tune, but I said I'd rather carry on. I then did the sight reading test which seemed to go ok, and finished off with the aural tests.
The 12 minutes seemed to go really quickly - but I bet the next two weeks waiting for the result won't!!! I'll post back when they arrive!!!
