Hi Guys

I have just received a John Packer Baritone through the mail. Cost is normally ?1000 but the are on offer for October at ?750.

Initial feelings are that its good value. Has the low A and a very good case with wheels. Plays well and has a good sound. The standard mouthpiece is ok, but I have used my C* and got even better results. The sling is not one that I would risk suspending a Baritone from for too long, but as a spare it will do. The ligature would not last too long either but over all very pleased with the purchase.

So any one looking for a Bari this is one too bear in mind.

Ps they also do it on the Take it away scheme of 10 months interest free .

Pps my old Selmer Bundy Bari may be up for sale soon, once I have finished checking this one out.

I'd be very interested to hear how it goes after you've got used to it. ?750 for a new bari is amazing. Could sell very well, particularly since the Bauhaus Walstein one seems to be taking its time arriving.

The question is, what will these bargains do to the value of older, non-top-flight baris, liie your Bundy and my 1960s Buescher 400?

It looks identical to the G4M baritone on sale for about the same price, however I went to the John Packer web page and could only see the price at ?999.00 maybe the deal is over?

Still amazing value, if it is the same as the G4M, Stephen Howard rated it highly, better than the Jupiter at twice the price! although not quite as good as the Yani on which the design relies heavily.

These are good times for sax players.

Had everyone better put their money into saxes?! Be a good excuse to tell the wife in these uncertain financial times 8)

Sounds very good value. I've noticed the John Packer range, also in Brass, but generally hold back. It would be good to have some independent reviews to help with any choices, though can't imagine ever needing another instrument ever (or so I thought!).

Have you got your Rico mouthpiece yet?
Await feedback with interest.

Kind regards
Tom

I have also bought recently a JP 045V alto from them. This has the same colourings as the Mauriats (even the pearls) and this plays really well too. That is at just over ?300. I use it for playing in the Dance band. I had a very nice comment from a pro player who said that he thought it was a genuine vintage horn as the sound was so full.

The offer is still on with the Bari. As you go to Packers sight the first screen is the Bari with 25 % off.

I will serious consider the tenor when that needs replacing too.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
