Great player with a nice fat tone, kind of 'accessible' Coltrane sound and style. I have a few tracks of him playing tenor with McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones.

Yeh, I know Joe from Blood Sweat and Tears, Flora Plurim, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard and a book of transcriptions my dealer gave me. lol. But I can't seem to catch on to what he does, what are you listening to? gruss - spike

Maybe another Joe Henderson? BS&T don't sound right :erm:

I am listening to a McCoy Tyner compilation that features Joe on a couple of tracks, namely 'Passion Dance' (urgent-sounding) and 'Search for Peace' (beautifully flowing), both of which are taken from Tyner's 1967 album, 'The Real McCoy', which in itself is a damn fine record, as it also features the mighty Elvin Jones on drums and Ron Carter, bass.

Oh yes it is Mr. B.G. and the three names that I remember from my Hippy hoppy days from BS&T - Fred Lipsius, Joe Henderson (with a pony tail, no less) and blue Lou Marini.

Hello Bob,

Stanley Turrentine playing God Bless the child, Major Minor, & ,Never Let me Go, don't know the albumn,(downloaded them from the internet) but these are all slow, laid back cruisy numbers, if you've never heard him your in for a treat.

He's a really bluesy kind of guy. I like his stuff.

Joe Henderson has a kind of gruff sound that didn't really do too much for me initially, but I found his seminal work to be the Inner Urge album with "Isotope" and "Inner Urge". Some burning work there.

In a mellower mode, he did an album of Billy Strayhorn music not too long before he died. Again really good but totally different in flavour.

I wasn't familiar with his pop stuff.
