Check this guy out if you haven't already. I found him in a podcast on the yamaha site. Go to www.yamaha.com/podcasts and scroll down to Jeff Coffin. Enter his podcast on Jazz improvisation. If you don't want to listen to him speak, then fast forward to the middle where he does an alto/tenor harmony solo. Really cool.

He's really good, Has anyone on here tried it? There is also a podcast on how the saxophones are made under George shelby -it's interesting to see how they are made in the factory.

Thanks for that link Bobby, Yeah I had heard of Jeff Coffin a few years ago, really hot player, I also downloaded that 8 page clinic notes on Practising. There's alot of other Sax material on the Yamaha site, I'll be visiting it for a while

I don't have any CD's of Jeff Coffin, a friend lent me a copy, however my criteria for all sax music is cruisey, on the slow side and soulfull (not too frentic) Look for these tunes, Only Love, Playin the Worm, Tall and Lanky, Zuleikha, & Ibrahim (which I know is from Mu'Tet)

Roland Kirk or DHS? I know Kirk had his horn modified after his stroke and also had some hybrid horns but did he have his kit customized to make playing two at once easier?

I migt be wrong, but I think Kirk had some instrumnets joined together, so one mouthpiece would blow 2 (or 3) horns.

Dick had his soprano alterd (by Willie garnet) so the right hand could finger both RH and LH keys.

Pete, Wow, that looks amazing, tell us more about this Saxrax, how does it sound, must be hard to get into the Case!

On another note! Pete and anyone else, tryed any of these electronic versions, clarinets/Saxes etc?

The thing in the picture is not a saxrax, (which is a saxophone stand that John manufatures). What he is holding is a combo of two saxophones he is building into a double belled horn. I thin it's probably just a fun thing rather than a prototype but who knows?

When I was there, this is as far as he had got so I don't know what it sounds like.
