wow, I'd never seen a subcontrabass sax before... that's scary. Does it come with its' own crane? And that sound is just... out of this world!

Sax.co.uk have a bass saxophone in their showroom. Apparantly it gets rented out when a production of 'Guys and Dolls' (I think) is on

Dwarfed by the subcontrabass though.

subcontrabass is awesome. I love the sounds of the really low saxes. Pity I have the lungs of a four-year-old l.l

Slight connection to Jay Easton - check out the subcontrabass and tubax stylings of Peter Schmid, who is fascinated by all low-pitched wind instruments, like contrabass and bass clarinets, and knows how to use them! He's also good on soprano and soprillo sax, and plays an instrument about the size of a straight soprano called a taragot which has a beautiful haunting sound all of it's own

I can't imagine a better job than someone like Steve Howard's - tinkering around, improving, restoring and playing all sorts of horns, not to mention the warm fuzzy feeling when someone gets their pride and joy back far better than when it went in.
