Message: <blockquote data-quote="progger" data-source="post: 562917" data-attributes="member: 9899"><p>If you were to ask a tech-futurist a couple decades ago, they'd probably say that the whole <em>point</em> <em>of automation</em> is so that machines can do the dull or unpleasant jobs humans don't want to do so humans can be freed up precisely for enjoyable things like music, art, film, dance, poetry, theater, etc. And while LLMs seem to have gotten this absolutely backwards for the time being, displacing the fun creative jobs before anything else, the fact remains that the entire <em>point of music</em> (and the other arts) is human enjoyment. That means humans creating music for and with other humans. Listening to music created by other humans. Experiencing art to help cope with the bittersweet nature of our finite existence, as we've done since prehistory.</p><p></p><p>As I've written elsewhere, I feel more validated and appreciated today when I play music on a high level than I ever have. Even "normal" people (non-jazz-fiends, etc) light up when they hear a real live musician doing something cool. This will only get more significant as AI and automation fatigue escalates.</p><p></p><p>Additionally, the entire argument of "AI is going to be everywhere so we have to embrace it!" benefits exactly one type of person, and that's a venture capitalist in an AI firm. All of those are famously unprofitable at the moment and most of their corporate pilot programs are failing.
