How do you wet your reed?

A glass of water for me

I like the nail polish tip - colour definitely will be OPI - St Petersburgundy.

OOoooo Sue that's a fab colour. :w00t:

I pop a selection in a glass of water for a few minutes, then if one is a bit duff I can rotate around until I find a good'un.

A word of warning for all you saxy folk in and around Northamptonshire, don't use the tap water unless your imune system is bang on. Cryptosporidium is rife, mind you I think my mouthpieces are probably full of worse bugs than that, as the only wetting mine gets is when a blow through it.

Because your worth it!

Simon

Ok this is actually a simple process.
Firstly choose your favourite alcoholic beverage (preferably a short)
Second, pour yourself a glass, over ice or neat, as you prefer.
Third, and this is the technical part, place your selected reed (necessary to convince your friends and family that you are not an alcoholic) into your mouth.
Four, now slowly sip some of your chosen tipple into your mouth, making sure it generously covers the reed.
Five, hold the liquid in your mouth, allowing the moisture to soak into the reed, and the alcohol to soak into you.
Six, as with all good instructions...........swallow and repeat
Sheven. remove shaid bitsh of stick from mouth.
Eight, remember which way up your ligythingy goes 😛 and attach the reed to your saxamophone (If reed now resembles a bunch of sticks repeat procedure using a fresh one) You should attempt this procedure no more than Five times :? :x and normally only when accompanied by an adult

Well, my boss spent the weekend sailing in Pitsford reservoir, where the little darlings are allegedly breeding like microscopic rabbits, and is no worse than he normally is......

😛

Hope he cleaned the bottom of the boat before leaving!
🙂

My tutor reckons that plastcover reeds are no good because he says the reed needs to be worked, has to be flexible etc and plastover reeds won't do that, but the ones I've tried for the tenor seem to be fine, although they only seem to be available in the lower strengths like 1.5 and 2

I'm not keen on plasticover reeds myself - I was given one when I played Soprano but did not like it at all. My life changed for the better when I discovered nice wet Rico Jazz Selects, which even my Sax teacher has switched to.
