I have been playing for 2 months now. Taking lessons once a weeks and practicing a least 1 hour per day.
Really having a great time with it.

I bought a used Selmer Omega MG288 SN:128xxxx for $525.00.
Anyone know anything about this sax?

I am having a hard time finding any history on it, where it was made,
what it compares to as far as quality, beginner, intermediate etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, big welcome from me. Can't help you on the sax, but it's a well respected make and so you shouldn't go wrong there. Have fun here. You'll make good progress practicing like that!

Welcome to the caff©, NP63.

Someone here will be able to tell you where the metal was mined.

ENJOY!™

Welcome to the cafe Chris

It's an addictive instrument:)

Welcome. Doesn't matter about your sax's pedigree as long as it plays. You'll read all about people here (and elsewhere) who are nuts about equipment. But believe me, you will still sound like you on a sax that costs 500 or 20,000.
Enjoy!

Welcome Chris to the forum,
Your sound will tell you everything you need. Stay with what you have for a while if your enjoying yourself that's the main thing!
Ciao

Cheers & ciao

Hi Chris and welcome a lot of the Omega`s were produced in the eighties for the American market. They were classed as an intermediate horn but a lot of players who use them claim they are to professional standard.

I am not an expert on these models and to add even more confusion the models were updated and Selmer USA produced the Omega with a whole set of new model numbers. Debate still rages in specialist circles as to their varying qualities.

I think they were all made in the USA and chances are that the metal used was of USA origin , I state this as China and Thailand were most of the metals come from these days were not in the frame in the eighties. I am sure you will have fun playing Selmer. Regds. N.
