Hello, does anyone know anything of Greg Abate. He is an american and is playing with Tad Newtons Jazz friends next Saturday at the Castle. We are going anyway and just wondered what to expect.

cheers

Well we went to see him last night. what an amazing player. we wondered what was going on when we saw the bands instruments on stands all arranged nicely and there was this knackered old case covered in crud dumped in a heap on the edge of the stage. In it was a pretty beaten up Selmer MK VI. No need to worry what a sound. We were sitting about 2 feet away from him playing, my feet were on his mike stand, it was pretty cosy. We were watching his fingers trying to work out what he was playing but he was so fast it was just impossible.

what a performer he ran the band, directed the solos, and played the sax and a flute. (the second time at my daughters request 😛 ) So all in all a great night a great player and really nice bloke. He was sat in the foyer at half time and just chatting to people dont get that with everyone.

Him and Zoltan Saggi who is also an amazing player (tenor and bari sax and clarinet) made up the front line with a guy call Garry Wood who plays Trumpet. the 3 of them played their horns to death. Tad himself played the trombone but seemed strangly quiet throughout.

So it was a great night and if anyone else gets to see him its worth everypenny.
