I got some really useful tips from this Forum on buying a Saxophone for my daughter for which I am very grateful. Hope you can help me with something else.

But also Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty and Dire Straights playing Your Latest Trick on the Tenor Sax.

I've got two double CDs in that vein that should have some great sax-featuring tracks, if you can get hold of the CDs.

"The Sax Album" (also called "The No. 1 Sax Album") - some by Roxy Music, Hazel O'Connor, Lou Reed, Madness, Ian Dury, James Brown

"Sax and the City" - some by Spyro Gyra, Maceo Parker, Average White Band, Jr Walker, Tom Scott

Good places to start.

Agree with you, Take 5 is just fantastic.

A long time ago I stumbled across Jazz Club - Alto Sax, it's a great album, bought it on tape many years back and wore it out!

There is also a Tenor Sax album in the same vein (Jazz Club) which is excellent.

I guess a lot depends on which sax you are interested in, alto, tenor or bari, listen to the specific type to hear different types of sound and phrasing.

If you click on the "Breakfast Room Amazon store" banner at the top here there is a wide selection of CDs recommended by Pete and forum members.

I have to plug MY favourite tenor player. If you like 'smooth' sax playing you have to listen to Stan Getz and his Bosa Nova recordings.

There should be enough there to keep you going for a while 😉 and Pete gets something for his charity.

Good luck with your search and I hope your daughter takes to the sax and provides hours of enjoyment for herself and you.

Where to start ?

Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster (tenor)
Cannonball Adderley 'Something Else' (alto)
Miles Davis 'Kinda Blue' (Coltrane, Adderley)
Any greatest hits of Lester Young, Charlie Parker...

Branford Marsalis 'Romances for Saxophone' (classical soprano)
Grover Washington 'Winelight' (alto, tenor)
Candy Dulfer (alto)

Bands like the NYC Ska Jazz Ensemble (Freddie Reiter, tenor) and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band...

There's a heap of vids and tracks on youtube.com and myspace.com added all the time...

So many to recommend - discovering them for yourself is fun too!
