First steps ?accessories, first note, reflections!.

I've really enjoyed reading your "ramblings." Although it wasn't that long ago that I started sax, I had forgotten a lot of those first moments.

"Finally on the subject of 'reflections', come on, we all do it? do I look any better in the mirror, sax around my neck, Hawaiian shirt, shades and straw titfer? Nah."

I personally think I look much better with a sax in hand! hehe

Elmer has told us he will take on the 'volunteer' task so that we can follow 'his' experiences. However, he has said he is busy at the moment.

I must start with an apology to all looking in or waiting on this thread to develope into my diary.

I've been shuffled around with my shift at work and am finding very little time to practice and I have for now had to put my tutor on hold

I'm sorry to back out as I wanted to plot my progress to you all but I'm struggling to get on the forum let alone pad out my diary.

So would someone like to take on the challenge and get this off the ground ?

If theres no takers I will write my diary but it may now be some weeks away.

:S

Think I may be able to take up you up on the beginners diary?!

Will squeeze it in between my household chores! What's more important, dust or saxophone? Hmmmm

2 years without dusting? I never dust. That's woman's work isn't it? (Attempted big smileys while ducking to avoid low-flying cans of Pledge, Mr. Sheen etc)

I am conducting a similar dust-etc-related experiment in my car, and it's a lot less than 4 years I can tell you. As a smoker, the last car maxed out after about 18 months. Projected time on my current car, which I've only had 3 months, and as a now non-smoker, is quite a lot longer.

Now, if you'll excuse me I must finish the washing up and hoover through. and that rubbish isn't going to put itself out either....

Perhaps I can persuade my house husband to dust? Have slipped up in my training so far, he only does the cooking, vacuuming, school runs....... >:)

Have started a new topic in beginners section called Late Bloomers Diary.
If anyone interested in trials and tribulations of a beginner, let me know, and I will try to update on a weekly/fortnightly basis...dust permitting of course!

I have been playing for about two weeks now, so It's all still fresh in my memory. I looked all over the internet for saxophones and loved everyone of them, because I had absolutley no clue, if it looked shiny I liked it!!! Because of my lack of knowledge i decided to find a tutor and ask them for tips on what to look for. I found a guy who lives in my village and he is a very accomplished musician; having played for the Queen amoungst other people. he was kind enough to find me a decent horn which i bought from him at a discounted price (no VAT -Tony Blair's not getting my money).
So I went over there to collect my new lil' baby I couldn't wait!!! I had dreamt about this moment for the past week, he opened the case and my heart skipped a beat (a semibreve to be exact). I was so scared to get her out, the instrument looked so overwhelmingly intimidating with all those mechanisms, but I got over my fear (how brave am I) and after ten minutes I was playing the C maj scale...i was so chuffed

Help please, i've just got my first sax and i've followed the man on the dvd and thought fantastic when i made my first note, unfortunately my excitement was short lived, because the following 3 notes all sound the same!!!! what am i doing wrong? Cheers xx

The first note was B then it should of been A then it was G and it should of sounded like mary had a little lamb, nothing too difficult, but the when i pressed the keys the tone sounded the same. Thanks for your asssitance xx
