Ch 4 How music is made

Anyone see the programme on channel 4 last saturday? Comments?

No doubt its elementary level to those with some music theory. As a complete newcomer to making any form of music I found it enjoyable and interesting. Looking forward to the next three in the series.

both my wife and i watched it.. my wife is a professional classical trumpet player.and both her and i found the musical side very basic because we already knew it. we found the programme in general was excellent from the historical point i didn't know why the modes came about..

marks 9/10 because they did't really dumb it down and historically it was interesting..

looking forward to the progamme on bass..

Channel 4 is a uk tv channel.. sorry impulse you'll just have to watch england win the ashes again..

A TV programme that's not dumbed down (aka 'sexed up') is surely something to be treasured and I'll try to see the next one, Tom permitting!

Mr mfox, does your wife's repertoire include the marvellous Haydn Eb trumpet piece? I love that....

is the bright seriphim hyden..she playing that on Eb for a wedding service on sat afternoon then playing the firebird suit in the evening think thats shostakovitch.. i get mixed up with all the names... not that keen on most classical stuff.. but i like what i like..
really enjoying copeland at the moment..

The Firebird is Stravinsky I think. As far as I know the Haydn I love is just known as the Eb trumpet concerto. It's one of those pieces that even non-classical fans recognise when they hear it if you know what I mean i.e. even if you aren't into classical music you'd be surprised how much of it you know.

I'm not particularly a classical aficionado, but in a similar way to how some people relate to art, 'I know what I like' 😉

With Aus.at 9/604 and Eng. 3/54 I think not, but a long way to go yet. What a great bowler Flintoff is!

I thought they did.

I missed Yesterdays though. I was out Christmas shopping (Yuck!)

Sounded interesting, it all being about rhythm etc.

I saw a bit of it in Saturday but the children booted me off the telly to watch the Simpsons. I think that it is called How Music Works. I wish that I had seen it all and the other programmes. While it might be dumbed down for all you pros, I thought from the bit that I saw there were some good examples with Fats Wallers evolurion from ragtime to swing etc... Is there a DVD set?

I thought the series was great. I did not care for the omision of Jaco Pastorius in the bass program though.

While my wife was breastfeeding out son late one night she was channel hopping and came across a great series of three Jazz programs on "Teacher's TV" done by Winton Marsalis. It was great teaching a 6 year old to growl!! Worth keeping an eye out for!
