c soprano pad advice

Hello All
Having stripped and cleaned my c soprano I am about to have it repaired and refitted and would be grateful for advice regarding pad type. Should I stick to plain pads, as per the originals, or would I be better with either plastic or metal resonators. Any comments gratefully received.

My preference would be non reso for this horn. I always think you can add brightness with the mouthpiece. Except being a vintage soprano it may not be too mouthpiece tolerant, it might need an original large chambered Buescher to be in tune, so then brightness is out the window. Being a tone higher than normal sop, perhaps it has an inherently brighter tone.

My gut feeling is till to go with old non reso pads, but I would listen to more opinions, especially from somebody who has experience of one of these.

If you decide to go with resonators then In my humble opinion the size is the important factor and not the material.

If the original had pads without resos then i would be inclined to keep it that way (I did the same thing on my saxello with white roo pads from Kurt altarac at musicmedic.com in the US)

I agree also with Pete in that it may play brighter - which may not be a bad thing by the way - if resos are fitted.

having said all of that, the majority of the pads are too small for resos anyway so you would really only be fitting them to all the pads below the F say.

It would be nice if there was some way of trying "temporary" stick on resos that didn't require dismantling or repadding. That way you could make some kind of decision before going for the repad with or without.
