Just ordered one direct from Ron >:)

So indulgent....so naughty >:)

I told him what I wanted from it and he used this expression... "like ten cellos playing in unison" :w00t:

He's promised to deliver all the power and versatility possible ....short of offering favours to the sound crew :x

Its still a couple of month wait at the moment 🙁 so this is my diary entry

Probably means there will be a metal Lawton 7*BB going in a couple of months though, like new and would post in yard sale...any initial interest?

I went back and had another go with my RPC baritone. This time I used RJS reeds rather than the Fibracell that I have been using recently.

It made a big difference to the sound - much richer and more interesting. Probably the best hard rubber piece I have got for baritone and definitely a keeper.

Thanks for making me dust it off and try again.

Rhys

ps Still might be interested in that Lawton though.

🙂
Hey great!!
My RPC for alto was love at first sight but I had to work with the Tenor a little bit and the same thing happened to me...best HR piece I ever tried.
Tenor is my main horn and I am trying to overcome the comfort zone I have with playing metal for so long at gigs..then there will be no way back from the RPC i'm sure.
Hence buying for the baritone!

Opposite for me, the alto took quite some time to get to be my favourite. I was using a refaced Selmer Soloist before the RPC, but now I'm using the RPC most of the time.

Hi Rhys,
Mine is a 90R alto and I'm sure thats what Pete uses (His recordings tipped me over the edge into the land of RPC so I asked him).
My tenor is 115B

Alto reeds
I use vandoren Java reeds but I don't go through many alto reeds and therefore experiment less.
I do know its one of Ron's choices though.

Tenor reeds
My reed of choice is La Voz medium hard in general across my pieces but...
to work nicely on the RPC they have to be well blown in.
Thats good though!! because once they are too soft for my other pieces they get a second life and I don't have to buy softer reeds either!
Its not really a recommendation though...I think there will definately be better suited tenor reeds.

Today the Baritone piece arrived.

It plays as I hoped ....its exciting!

Shame about the frustrating wait but knowing now how it plays and sounds , I would do it again if I had to!

So apparently there is this bloke making mouthpieces called Lamberson who trained Ron.........I wonder what his pieces are like? 8|

Glad you're happy with it Saxlicker.
How long did it take to arrive? My rollover tenor took six months, would like to try a wedged one but run the risk that they might have to open the coffin to deliver it.>:)
Seems you either love them or hate them, bit like humans.

Since July 07.
Beleive me it feels longer, strangely the first 6 months pass in a fairly painless fashioin. Then you feel justified in giving a call to let him know you're eager.
Then you do that again, and again.
The trouble is each time you do it Ron tells you "a couple more weeks may be".

I do have good RPC experience across alto tenor and baritone now though so I can do nothing except recommend them.
Alto & Tenor were second hand, and I also have a second hand baritone one cos I got so tired of waiting.
My verdict is that they are so consistant you are just as well off paying a few quid more...(yes more) for an unaltered second hand one.

Phoned Ron about my Tenor mpc and he is not well so guess I will be waiting another 4 months..... after reading this forum I can't wait, as I have mentioned been on the Berg since 58.... no not 1858

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
