I shall be off to the Frankfurtmesse for a few days, so I may be a bit quiet on here, don't know whether I get a connection at my hotel yet.

Anyone else going to be there? Spike?

Not sure about fun, my feet are killing me - I couldn't believe how massive this Messe is.

It was very nice to meet Benedikt Eppeslheim, I just had to buy one of his beautiful contrabass tubaxes.

I was very impressed with Rampone & Calzone. One of the P.Mauriat tenors is now officially the best tenor I've ever played (sorry Hanson). A very nice Vietnamese sopranino too and a strange Chines alto with new pad design (pics to follow).

NOT impressed with Cannonball or Francois Louis ligatures.

oh-noooooo!!!! 😡

Pete why did you have to go and big up the PMauriat?

I have liked the thought of owning one since Sax.co.uk opened in the new premises.
But until now, it was just a vague twinkle. Now I definately need to test drive one.

P.S. hide this thread from Bob or he'll be robbing Doreen 😛

I can confirm what Pete has mentioned

like his feet mine were sore too - I was also at the Messe and managed to track Pete down.

I loved the PMauriat unlacquered tenor.

I also met Jody Espina (Jody Jazz mouthpieces) and we ordered a starter set (altos and tenors ebonite and metal) so watch this space for details - they will be on sale at John Myalls in Croydon.

Oh yes, I forgot to say how nice it was to meet Griff - we didn't get a chance to hang out much. I was there with a non saxophone hat (business meetings with Apple software people, but you don't want to know about that).

Not all Mauriats are that good - don't just go and buy one.

I tried some Jodyjazz mouthpieces. Probably a bad time as I was asked by someone on the stand to play it outside. Very good mouthpiece but not for me.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
