Art Themen interview

What a nice man and a truly great player ! I have seen him several times, including one of my first jazz gigs back in 1982 where he was playing with Stan Tracey, Roy Babbington and a very young Clarke Tracey.

I did a workshop with Art and he was very encouraging to everyone there.

Art has always been one of my favourites; so original and instantly recognisable.

I remember being so disappointed going to a Stan Tracey quartet gig and finding that he'd replaced Bryan Spring with his son, Clark. The Captain Adventure album with Art, Stan, Bryan and Dave Green (I think) is bloody wonderful. Clark's a fine drummer but Bryan Spring is really special.
