Why So Expensive?!

Its not just ticket sales that put my back-up. I constantly listen to winging regarding the cost of white goods and other consumables.

We all seek a fair price for the items we buy. When the opportunity arises and we can do without there are those who will pay over the price. I'm not one of those but it wouldn't do for us all to be the same.

Just my opinion.

I'd disagree that David Sanborn is a technical genius, there are a million clones of his technique around! However his tone and expressiveness are amazing. Isn't this what makes up 'soul'?

I don't know about technical genius or 'soul', but I love the *sound* when he plays(but not always his choice of music/style!).

I'd scratch together the money to see him if I could get there, just to hear him 'live', at a venue where you don't need a 'big screen' to see the artists!

However, with Sanborn, I saw him at the Royal Festival Hall in 2003 and paid for my two sisters also (the gig when the crap Soweto Kinch was warmup act). So not seeing him at Ronnies is fine.

I saw David Sanborn in London in 1990 at the Royal Festival Hall and the price was GBP20.00 and I think GBP7.50 was booking fee.
I saw Barbara Thompson at Ronnie Scott's in 1991 and I think the price was GBP12.00 and that included another act of an American flugal horn player (sorry, I forgot the guy's name). One thing I know for sure is Barbara Thompson is a great player and her husband, Jon Hiseman is a fantastic drummer.

Yeah I heard him when I was 18 in NZ. You may well still need the big screen to see him Roger - he's about 5 foot nothing (amazing sound for such a small guy) 😉
