From what other people say about them, that's still a good deal. I'm considering one myself unless a cheap bari in my area comes along.

And, as Mr Bobby says, they're considered good horns. I like my alto.

With the Italian pads this seems like a step on the way to an upgraded version. You can expect the price to go up further when mother of pearl keys, a posh case and a better mouthpiece are added according to Steve Howards review of the Walstein tenor (http://www.shwoodwind.co.uk/Reviews/Saxes/Tenor/Walstein_tenor.htm).
I guess he should know since he is apparently the Woodwindandbrass tech.

With luck the newer models won't be using cork glue that goes liquid when the weather gets hot causing bits of cork to fall off !
