Mouthpieces Vandoren V16 Mouthpiece Alto

lovely- had one on my alto.... very flexible, well made, not great on my current alto (maurait 67R) but a good all rounder on the vast majority of modern horns (yamaha, yani, selmer etc)

Hello Smiffy,

I play on a V16 A6M. I can only compaire it with the Yamaha 4C that came with my alto and the Meyer G 6 I bought after the 4C.

The 4C has a very small tip opening which I don't like.
The Meyer plays nicely and has a bright and kind of dry
sound to it.

The V16 has a warmer sound which I like, but I find it needs slightly harder reeds to get more secure and fatter high notes. It works well with Java 3 and Trad 2 1/2.

Out of the three mouthpieces I have, it is my favorite.

I received a Vandoren T55 for my tenor yesterday, and my first impressions are good.

So it's V16 to add a little warmth to my alto, and Vandoren Java to brighten up my tenor sound.

I've just bought a V16 ( A8 ) - upgrade from a Yamaha 4C. I'm not really used to it yet but love it already - compared to the Yamaha I can get a far wider range of tones from very smooth and breathy to really quite edgy and a big dynamic range. It is warm and smooth. It is MUCH louder than the Yamaha when I want it to be. Stays in tune and is an easy blow. Not noticed it being any easier or harder than the Yamaha for high or low notes but the high notes are "fatter".

I tried a java jumbo while in the shop - scary but great fun!

Hi Smiffy!

My V16 7M Alto arrived today and is excellent. Have only just given it a blow and it seems very promising. I mainly play SSS and have done for 2 years, but this may usurp the status quo.

Very good piece indeed!
Never tried a Meyer - have you heard about the 'G'?

Kind regards
Tom

I' heard of it, in fact I've got one. It has a medium to small chamber. It has a brighter sound than the V16, and I prefer the sound of the high notes it produces. The V16 though is better in the low register and I prefer it overall.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
