Ordered a Vandoren Jumbo Java A35 alto sax mouthpiece with ligature and cap from sax.co.uk on the 11th of December and a parcel from them arrived on the 19th of December (yesterday). I thought excellent service 8 days from the UK to New Zealand, pretty good going. Opened up the package... and they have sent me the wrong mouthpiece - Vandoren V5 A35 suitable for classical and big band section work. I've sent them a couple of e-mails no response as yet. Looks like I'll have to post the incorrect mouthpiece back to them, wait for them to receive it and then despatch the correct mouthpiece back to me. I was hoping to run the new mouthpiece in over the holiday period - it looks like that'll have to wait until next year. The invoice in the package said Jumbo Java so I don't know the mix up occurred - at least the ligature and cap appear to be the right ones. Maybe there is somebody in the world trying to play classical music on a Jumbo Java. At least I've got my trusty old Meyer 5M.

Disappointed Greg.

I should ring them up and discuss it.... maybe they'll send the replacement off straight away(against a refundable deposit?), so you can cut down your wait.

Have you got internet phone(eg Skype)?... VERY much cheaper for such calls!

You shouldn't have to pay for postage back. problem is the time of year for communicating with retailers etc.

Give them a call. I can imagine their inbox is pretty full and overflowing this time of year.

I've used their services on a few occasions and I have found them very helpful

Received an e-mail back from Jules of Sax.co.uk. Jules apologised for the wrong mouthpiece been sent due to chaos at the shop, which is understandable this time of the year, and as they cannot give any postage refund due to New Zealand Post and the UK postal service been two different entities they will enclose a free box of reeds for compensation for postage with the Jumbo Java mouthpiece. I thought that was very generous of them. So, the V5 liked the trip to New Zealand but is now winging its way back home to the UK. It must be the most travelled mouthpiece in the world. I'll certainly use sax.co.uk again for any sax requirements in the future because they have given me very good service ...next time I probably won't order anything at Christmas time, though.
The cost to send the mouthpiece back to the UK - approx. less than the price of 2 sax reeds.

Not So Disappointed Greg

P.S. Thanks for your comments everybody, Happy Chanukkah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and any other celebration.
