Thanks Tom

I have been in touch with Martin about the Walstein Tenor, they will be getting new stock 1st Sep so I still have a few weeks to look around and think about it

Smithy

I must say I love my walstein. I can't tell you anything technical about it, I just love it. It has a great sound and is just lovely to play.

Col has a Hanson Alto which he really likes but I don't get on with it that well myself!!

I guess it's all down to personal opinion, good luck with whatever you choose

Jane

Hi Jane, and thanks

The Walstein is still top of my list, with the Hanson second (it's a great offer with the 5 years warranty and service) unless I find a bargain elsewhere

What about G4M its worth a look if only to throw more confusion your way!......sorry for that.

[color:green]Great thread Smiffy! I'm also thinking of getting a Tenor, and all this info is good reading.

I contacted Woodwind and Brass too, 'cos I really want to try-before-I-buy. I got a reply from Martin saying to get in touch in September to arrange an appointment.

(cash is a bit short at the moment though!!)

Hi Smiffy,

I have the basic alto which appears very similar to the Walstein.

I have no experience with this tenor, but if its anything like the alto it won't be half bad.

I wouldn't buy another without trying first, just my opinion though. Although I think you can go and try at their warehouse/shop.

They also have a money back option should you not like it.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I found that many saxophones from the far east look identical, the only proof of the pudding is going to be what they play like and how well they stand up to use. There are so many copies, and copies of copies.

What you need to look for is a good sound and a well manufactured instrument made from strong metal. Check that there isn't too much play in the mechanism. If in doubt take it to a good tech, don't just look at a photo or the colour of the metal.

Simon Thanks for your reply

Pete, That is why I'm favouring the Walstein and Hanson

The reports by yourself and Stephen H on the Walstein and by the very good warranty/services and return by Hanson

Can't find much on the sound/ playability of the Hanson's mind

We bought my daughter a G4M french horn a month or so ago and their premium brand sax was "Howard" in the catalog with no mention of Rosedale but the website is completly the oposite.

They looked loverly, but as has been mentioned proof is in the playing.

Col.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
