Straps

Hi

Just in case anyone has the same problem locating a particular type of strap.

I dont know whether its just the UK or the region I used to live in but it seemed I could never get the type of 'old or classic' style strap I was after.

I wanted the string style strap with metal fittings (not plastic).

Upon my first few visits to music shops in France I was amazed by the sheer variety of classic straps and immediately found what I was after.

The model I have is the Brancher "Strip" size L which adjusts effortlessly for alto and tenor, the fittings are solid polished metal and the adjustment is a dream consisting of a solid metal bead with a rounded hole, it never tangles and adjusts by small amounts effortlessly. Everything is strong, well built and the metal fittings are gold plated, chunky and robust.

The neck part is a leather strap with a discrete foam liner and is very comfortable, I tried the wider "cresent model" but didnt find it quite as comfortable.

I include a link for anyone who is looking for the same.

All the best

Sorry Pete, On reflection I can see this belongs in a different section. Advance apologies.

[note: I've moved it to saxophones - Pete]

Hi Ken

I havent had any problems with the hook. Its about 3cm long and made out of fairly thick metal, the opening is only about 3mm wide so the sax doesnt come off easily.

I guess it could come out if you bounce around a lot!

Cheers Jon

Probably, but I've never watched the DVD.

On second thoughts, as it's virtually impossible for your horn to become inadvertantly unhooked (even better than doglead clips), maybe it's not too inexpensive if saves your saxophone from a fall.

I find that most straps are, literally, a pain in the neck, and I've gone for the Neotech Sling which goes over one shoulder and under the opposite arm, and is slightly elasicated.

'Natty' it ain't, but that's not important to me - 'Function Before Fashion' I say 🙂

So far, it hasn't caused PITN so I'm quite happy with it.
I got it by mail from John Myatt (GBP18.99)

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
