I've just got back from the Bangkok Jazz Festival. A comfortable 25 degress, all outside, great sound system and free-flowing beer -perfect.

The last act on stage was the Nils Landgren Funk Unit - man that guy can play trombone! Intelligent lines played at a fleeting speed and full of emotion.

The sax player (tenor sax) was a Swedish guy called Magnus Lindgren. A completely different player from the sax player from the previous band, Blood Sweat & Tears. The BS&T's sax player played pristine, Breckeresque solos in a poised and polished way. Magnus Lindgren played with a freeness and openess that was truly refreshing in contrast - a constant stream of original ideas over modal grooves with very little changes.

He has won awards in his native Sweden and has a few albums out under his own name.

Has anybody else heard this guy play?

hello
I live in belgium and saw himin a jazz club here a few years back.I also bought a cd of him then.
I saw him when he was just starting in fact.it's only a year before that he had won a contest called jazz hoeilaart and with witch he had lots of gigs all over belgium.
I havn't listened to him for a long time but i do remember it wasn't bad.
