Beginner Saxes Learning saxophone to play a single song

The OP asked and people offered their opinions.
If the OP just wanted to get on with it I guess they may have asked a different question. If they'd asked "I have a sax, where can I get a transcription" or such, replying "you're doomed to failure, doomed I say" may not have been so helpful. Indeed, if the OP does get on with it, I'd expect a request for a transcription of the solo as opposed to the lyrics which are readily available... And then people would go "do it by ear" and we'd get to 72 pages discussing that.

And "give it a go" may not be that easy in a country were over half of the population don't live near a music instrument shop, let alone a rental place; and where transport is expensive etc.

Seems to me the thread has a good mix of encouragement, caution and possible alternatives ... In response to the question asked.
Blimey

Most adults knows when it's time to "call off".

If a person ask me if I could help to learn how to play "Jag trodde änglarna fanns" for his wife on their wedding, I would turn down the offer. IMO a wedding song have should have beautiful melody and/or lyrics.

To read a poem is an alternative. like "C major" by Tomas Tranströmer ..... ? I heard a swedish version of a Micky Jupp song and the leave out instrument solos. An actrees took the solo with words. Why are we listening to faded sax honkers, like me, when we can have a young and beautiful actress with a clear and pleasant voice to do the job?

Even if I play "Jag trodde änglarna fanns" with/for my ,back then, 4-5 years old daughter I don't think it's suitable at a wedding. Maybe at the latter part of the wedding party?

As a chef I didn't cook Mex-Tex, Pizza, Fish & Chips ...... at a wedding dinner.

Maybe at the latter part of the wedding party?
I'd assumed that's what the OP was after - hard to imagine him whipping out a sax halfway down the aisle - or on the way into the registry office or whatever...,
The song's not my taste either, neither are weddings; but, I guess, that's irrelevant to the OP.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
