Hello from darkest Dartmoor (although actually quite sunny today!)

"In high school they gave me a soprano, but there was no way I could play that thing in tune. They moved me to alto, and it improved slightly. Tenor was even better, but baritone was my thing: finally something that was in tune"

Pepper Adams
(in person, about 1983)
At the moment personally I can play the alto far better in tune than the bari, but sound wise the lower the better for saxophones as far as I'm concerned - just a shame big saxes are so expensive, hence why it's taken me this long to take the plunge.

Look for a 1930s Martin Handcraft tenor.
Think I'd better learn to play the bari properly before I bring even MORE music kit into the house :D
Tenor is a nice size though and covers a good range - but I just needed to scratch the baritone itch I've had for decades. Plus the fact that it's in the same key as the alto is a bonus - Eb saxophones make more sense to me as a clarinettist because the fingering sort of matches the second register of a Bb clarinet for written notes, and the lower register for concert pitch, which is quite convenient.
