Hi Folks

I have a pupil taking grade 3 jazz with Trinity and we where wondering about the piece Hard Slog by James Rae. We wondered about taking the last 2 bars up the octave to make the piece havea more dynamic ending. Can anyone let me know what the official thoughts are or if they have tried this sort of thing?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

This from p77 of the Trinity Woodwind Syllabus:

"Candidates are encouraged to be creative with this material... marks will be awarded for the inventiveness and orginality of the improvisational element"

Yep, used it alot with ABRSM and Trinity pupils: gets them better marks! Other thing to work on - dynamics. Players who can demonstarte this effectively get better marks too in my experience.
