I use Finale Pro, but the Notepad version does have many of the features a typical musician would want. Good call!

I love Melody Assistant myself; it's shareware but pretty dang close to free. I bought version 1.5 many years ago for $10 and still get free upgrades every few months. It does almost everything Finale does -- and a lot of nifty things it doesn't, like calculating harmonica tablature from a midi melody. I think it's gone up to $20 now for version 9, but you won't find another program with half as many features under $200. Lifetime support & upgrades, too!
