compressed cork

One of my mouthpieces is "slightly" tighter diameter than the other. This means when I put on the second mouthpiece, it is "loose" because the cork is compressed.

Is there anyway to get the cork to "expand back out"? I take the mouthpiece off of the crook every night.

lightly steam it in the steam from a kettle for about 10 seconds, spinning it while you do so. don't do it for morethan 10 seconds of the glue will start ot melt, though...

The best thing to do is keep on taking it off as you are doing and make sure you use cork grease.
That said, the compression from the tighter piece will win in the end.
Then you'll have to replace the cork.

There is a trick where you can heat the cork under a flame but thats not a recommendation from me!!!!!
Again its very temporary.

Even with steam, be very careful not to get it on any lacquer.

Ulimately a solution might be to get the narrower bore widened a bit. You try some fine sandpaper wrapped around you finger and a very long film.

I read that you can use the thin white tape that plumbers use to wrap around taps to stop water leaking. Wrap it around the cork and it goes on and comes off easily. It doesn't solve the problem of a compressed cork but it means you can still use the wider mouthpiece.
