TV/film/books Anime - Blue Giant

Ok. Not a film review... Maybe a place holder.

Anyway, it promises jazz and sax. Out this spring

Particularly groovy for the "jazz is dead" brigade

I just watched this and I found it enjoyable. One thing I liked was that it featured full songs, unlike other pop/rock-focused anime such as K-On or Love Live where the shows would only play short versions of their songs (i.e. typically finish after the first chorus).

The animation during the performances is a bit of an acquired taste though, most of it is clearly 3d-rendered but also a lot of abstract art and effects thrown in -- after all, they do have to fill in the visuals for the entire performance, and no animation team is going to put in the cost and effort to try and accurately replicate the key/finger work of all the musicians involved, but they still have to show something...
