Thumb rest adjustment

Hello
I have a yamaha yts pro 62 with thumb rest adjustment.
Is there any advice on correct thumb support adjustment. At present it is in its manufacturers default position. I have noticed that when I am playing side b flat and side f sharp my thumb moves to a point were my thumb nail is perched under the rest. Is this to be excepted as normal? I dont want to start tinkering about trying different positions without getting some advice first.

Sounds like you might want to move it to the right slightly.

Try moving it a bit for a few days and see how it feels, then keep adjusting every so often until you're happy. The position is really not that critical (other than to your own comfort) so you'll do no harm to try alternate positions.

If you're really concerned take a picture of the default position and re-set it close to that after a while if it doesn't make any difference.

Slacken the holding screw sufficiently to move the hook with slight pressure but enough to hold it in place when you remove your hand away. Adjust the hook to accommodate the side keys and retighten the screw. Depending on the size of your hands some compromise maybe required. Beware the screw will be soft brass so use a quality screwdriver of the correct size and care.

The hook adjustment on my bari is slightly loose and so self aligns, I find this works just fine for me.

Being of the small-handed persuasion, I had to adjust the hook on my YAS-62. It was very easily done in the same way as Chris Jones suggested, and once done you can then just forget it. I like Simon's idea of allowing it to 'float' a bit, although obviously not to the point where it's just dangling.
