Does anyone have any suggestions for a mouthpiece that gives an older, husky like jazz sound. The advice I was given by someone was to go for a larger opening mouthpiece with a low baffle but I don't know if that will give me anything but a louder tone.

I'm not particularly looking for something loud for a smoother huskier tone without any edge or extra loudness.

My best guess is whatever mouthpiece that can do that will most likely be a rubber mouthpiece instead of metal.

Since you're already playing a Dukoff D-chamber try a Dukoff LD. Only for the tenorist. I played a Dukoff LD 10 for a couple of years. I still have the mpc. A mpc with lots of power but you can play soft as well.

I have a Vandoren Java and a Vandoren V16 T8. I think the V16 is closer to what you are looking for. In general you need a large chamber mouthpiece.

Would have to be the Phil Barone Jazz Metal - the one that Charles Lloyd uses - very large chambered piece with low baffle so not loud but very husky. I have an 8 tip opening piece, and it is the business. Having played both the Java and the V16T8 I personally would think that the Barone is the "Husky" one.

Kind regards
