Mouthpieces Mouthpieces

For beginners I recommend a Yamaha 3C or 4C, Vandoren A35 or A45.

Once you know more about the sound you want and can get, I recommend custom RPC mouthpieces.

The mouthpiecec can have one of the biggest influences on shaping your sound (much more than the make of saxophone).

There are many other good mouthpieces that out there, I haven't tried them all so listen to the other advice you will get here.

BTW, which one is you in the avatar?

I hope to have a Vandoren A25 ForSale soon, if I can get along with my Lamberson... watch the Yard Sale section... although I may keep as a back-up.
It's an excellent mpc for a beginner, IMO.

(And which is *you*, Pete? 😛 )

My birthday is coming up, so I've been thinking...

Should I stick with the mouthpiece that came with my sax or get a new one? Will a new mouthpiece make that big a difference to my playing? Would it make low and high notes easier to hit? (I'm currently turning the sax slightly to get the high ones and can't maintain them or tongue them yet at-all.)

Any thoughts on this?

Lisa, the stock Jupi mpc is a 4c, which should be perfectly adequate for you at the mo, you should maybe get used to that one first. How about a metronome in cherry wood with a bell that rings at the beginning of the bar. That might well be more useful. regards - spike
