Just purchased this on ebay, for what I hope was a good price, does anyone have experience of these horns.

Hi Paul,
I can't say I've heard this particular sax but in the few years after I took up the sax a lot of music shops with woodwind sales started getting their name engraved on sax's that were reasonable student material of the time with the usual claims of ...'I know a lot of pro's who play these'

Anyway I'd imagine that they were nearly always the same 'Eastern block' manufacture whether they came from Michael White or who ever and how good or bad they were I have no opinion to offer.
The materials being reported as soft were most peoples only concern.

That said, if it were from the ERA I refer to, then the new price would have been ?450+ at that time. (New prices have come down since..thanks to the internet)

But ?83 :w00t: Can't go wrong I'd have thought.

Hallo Paul, looks like a good buy for the price. Having lived in charmany for 30 years, I'd agree with S'licker on the Ost bloc, either East Germany or Tschecheslovaki origin, - gold laquer and nickel keys, the big ring between the body and bell should be a give-away and the sling ring, the spatulas on the RH pinky look a bit oversized to my eyes. I'd say Eastern Europe, mid-eighties, solid horn and if it plays good you got a deal.
Check out saxpics.com - might give you some clues. greets - spike

>.< I cannot believe I have been so stupid, how on earth I thought this was a tenor is beyond me. It's not as if the pictures weren't clear enough, I'll just have to hide under my bed for a while. Ah well quick service and back on ebay or local sale.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
