Mouthpieces I can't decide on a mouthpiece - Views and Advice please

Well chaps, all that sounds very complicated and technical I'm sure. All I can say in my limited experience is that the Selmer is just so great to play I can't put it down and the link gives me the sort of smoky sound I like but is harder to blow and bigger in my mouth 😛

See you all know the technical stuff which is why this is such a great forum for us beginners.

Very interesting... I also have just got a Selmer from the forum with a couple of 2 strength reeds to try.. does seem easier than the TJ mpc which came with the sax.

Only more playing will help determine my opinion.. and the step up in reed strength does not seem to have effected my playing.. (yet  )

Hi Matt

I've also got a TJ sax so have also changed from their mouthpiece. I usually play a 2 but a 2.5 when I'm feeling strong. I have found the difference mainly in playing the high and low notes which I had to think about before. The Selmer just plays them. It's great.

I didn't see it already in the thread so I might actually be able to contribute something useful back to the forum :w00t:

These guys specialise in reeds and mail order.... rumour has it (according to friend of mine, that they *might* (I'm being cautious here because it's not first hand experience) allow you to try some different MPCs via mail order, obviously only really useful if you have a couple in mind and are likely to buy one of them.... try calling them and see what you think.... if nothing else they have keen pricing on reeds anyway (I tend to get mine from there mostly)

The mail order reeds store is http://www.reeds-direct.co.uk/

They have great service and are helpful and friendly.

Cheers

T.
