Here's another question for all to chip-in with suggestions.

The parents of student of mine want to buy a vintage tenor sax for them. At this stage, money is no object (lucky lad!) I know what i would choose, but where do you folks think I should go (in the UK for delivery before xmas) to get a sweet blowing horn? Does anyone have anything for sale. It has to be in good working order but with bags of character.

I know Stuart at Woodwind Exchange in Bradford very well and have no doubts that he has several such 'pearls' from Mark sixes to Ladyfaces. However, which is the best website of UK dealers that I could collate a variety of choices from, for the doting parents?

Hi Jools
Out of interest. Is there any reason they are wanting to buy a vintage sax?
If money is no object and a youngster is involved I would have thought go for a slick modern horn.

Whatever happens - I bet it'll be the best Christmas present he ever gets :w00t:

Quite a few in the States, Holland, and few others around the world but, in this country, apart from Woodwind Exchange, there isn't and now that eBay is here there may never will be.

Sometimes, I dream that I'm walking along this dark street, always the same street, when I come across a lovely old bow fronted shop full vintage saxophones. Inside the shop there are row after row fabulous old horns. At some point I wake up and realize I'm not actually going to be taking any of these works of art home with me. Life can be very hard.

If you're still looking for a instrument contact me as I recently spoke to an elderly musician who was selling up his collection of saxophones and I'll past your details on to him if you wish.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
