10 "classic" blues songs with sax?

Many thanks John : not a name I'm familiar with but Texas certainly didn't go short of good tenormen...
I'll look forward to checking that out later ; for now back to the Berg...
Have a good weekend amigo...

Some good compialtions. Jesse Powell is on some of them. The R&B and early rocksax had a "renaissance" in the late 90's and 00's.

The "Big Push" - the Texas guitarist Cal Green. And you can trace saxriffs à la Little Richard as well. I don't know who is blowing the sax solo.

Sorry I missed your question Adrian. I used to get notified.
Splish Splash—Bobby Darin with Jesse Powell on Tenor.
Bobby Darin, vocals, piano; Al Caiola, guitar; Billy Mure, guitar; possibly Wendell Marshall, bass; Jesse Powell, tenor sax.

Jesse Powell had big and thick sound.

A "raspy" and "growly" sax in a slow song with an unknown vocalist. "Leavin' Tonight".

"Jesse's Blues" - a slow more easy listening blues that you could hear on the radio and from jukesboxes all over America back in the 50's.

Yes, yes ... all great blues songs. But I think i must write or some horncharts. When 2-3 hornplayers are going to play together for the first time it must be easy so everyone can play. Sometimes there are young players that shows up. Very important that they are happy with the jam. Tomorrows musicians that should carry the torch! Thanks.
ooh you doing a workshop...

Yes, we do lot of things we shouldn't do!?!?!

Blues or not.

I know some very professional players and they like to play "Mustang Sally". I don't understand the bad attitude against some music? As it goes for "Smoke On the Water" I gave it a try. But my friend helped me to play a solo and to play a long with electric guitar. And we played over the (we did it in concert A) B blues scale. But it's not a blues even it have a bluesy theme ..... . King Curtis played Led Zeppelin as well. I often wonder if guys like Curtis would refuse to "Mustang Sally"? Of course not, he was too good ..... .

Not that we are pros but when I email our song list to a bride/groom or company rep to pick the songs they want us to play, "Mustang" is one of the first choices and has been for over 20 years.

I was "sitting in" with a bar band years ago when a man came to the stage and asked for it and held a $20.00 bill in front of me. I yelled over to the band leader "request for Mustang" and he replied "hell no"
