Ok- Wotcha folks. The info we have so far is that its a customization of one of their (already pretty tasty) Raw tenors. We've not got the specifics yet but apparently there are quite a few 'tweaks' to the basic design to 'Andy-ize' it.... He's doing the launch event in a few weeks time- http://www.sax.co.uk/acatalog/andysheppard.html
You now know as much as I do...

Obviously the XS is the saxophone equivalent of XL (Extra Large) - it's the sax for Real Men. Or at that price Rich Men.:)))

Or play by itself like Andy Sheppard...

Maybe it stands for Xtra Sound, Xtra Sax, Xtra Sheppard, Xtra Special? Sounds like more marketing b!@@#$%t:)

Jules told me today the score. The new XS has just a touch more hand finish and set up plus its proper bare brass, might be atd more free blowing compared to the normal RAW.The Sheppard went through Andys hands about 4 times ,each time he changed things. It blows darker they say.Feels lighter in weight also.

Thanks for the heads-up Davey...

The XS and the Andy Sheppard model are two different horns...here's a link if anyone is interested...

at least if I bought one I get a 20% discount and then get stung 15%(G.S.T. - gross stupidity tax) + biosecurity costs this end...how many snakes and creepy crawlies live in a saxophone?

For the extra two grand you get a Jakob winter case (what about if it's summertime?:)))), a signed CD and a certificate...woohoo...:w00t:

Good grief: 5K for a Taiwanese sax (yet again, reading from the description on sax.co.uk: "hand built and finished in Lenham, Kent" is that just finished, hand built where?), they are making great strides (or that signed CD must be effing great!)!

Anyway, I'm willing to pay up to £170 for any of the 3 prototypes: could anyone let Worldwind Music know?

Cheers,
M.

that's a real "Fin de siècle" overpriced hype/ Bullshot price, for a taiwanese factory horn, imho.
For £5k could get you a original lacquer, full overhauled mk 6 tenor, a vintage berg larsen or guardala, a box of reeds and all of Andy Sheppard's CDs. And a bag of chips and a taxi home.

Nah, nobody wants those old MK6s anymore (not even Andy Sheppard!), can't even get spares for them! We all want £5K, brand new shiny horns, that try to emulate vintage Selmers >:)>:)

As for me, I'm going to stick with my £600 ex-school Yani T880, it makes me happy!

BTW.: anyone going to the launch in London?

I might go. He is still a great musician.
And I might learn something about marketing the Aldevis Autoghrap Sequoia Series. In my case, it would come with a free download from my website and my signature with black marker. All for just an extra tenner.

I am a little puzzled - as in my bottom draw i have some very snazzy postcards from a couple of years back of Andy Shepherd telling everyone to 'Go For The Sound' with P. Mauriat Saxophones? So what happens when the next best thing comes along? (but i did buy a TJ RAW and IT IS excellent - but really don't think £5k for a few extra bells & whistles is a goer for me!)
